Why participate in an AW Blogchain?

A group of freelance writer's at Absolute Write (AW) have actively participated in what we call the Absolute Write Blogchain. There are many benefits for those that play a part in the experience. We operate under these basic guidelines:
  • First person in the chain finds the last post of the last post and takes an element from that to base their blog post on so that the previous chain and this chain are connected.
  • Second and subsequent participants in the chain will take an element from the entry before theirs and incorporate it into their post. So for me to post an entry, I need to read yours and find something about your post.
  • The last person in the chain takes an element from the post before theirs and from the first post to tie the chain together.

This is the start of Absolute Write Blogchain No.8 and I am writing the first entry based on the last post from ol' No.7 from Techtainment. Razib's post was on the four benefits for writers participating in the AW Blog. Briefly, these included link development, improvement in their Google Page Rank, community interest generated by comments, and the enjoyment of working with the others involved in the project.

I have to second Razib's comments on the writers involved with AW. The interaction, support and help provided has been overwhelming to me. AW defines what a positive community can do for its members. And it's a two-way street, you find there are equal measures of enjoyment assisting a fellow writer, as the relief felt after someone helps you out of a tight spot.

AW is a solid resource for writers. You can bounce a idea off the others, research a question, start a political argument and find a assignment. These are all the things that we need to keep the wheels turning and ideas fresh. Consider participating in AW Blogchain No.9!

The next blog in the chain will be BK_30 at Just A Small Town Girl.

Thanks for starting us off in such fine style. I love the blogchain :). I get to meet new folks and see the strange things that happen to ideas over time and space. The next little while is going to be *fun*.

Are chuckling evilly, BTW? I have sent out a cry for help to all sorts of friends. I want to make Akutaq. Do you know how *hard* it is to find Alaskan ingredients in Australia?

This a modern version that I found online. The most common version I have heard about is just shortening, sugar and berries.

Modern Akutaq

• 1 1/2 cups shortening, softened
• 1 to 4 bananas, mashed
• 2 cups fresh strawberries, cut or mashed
• 4 pounds mixed frozen berries
• honey or sugar to taste
• 1 1/2 to 2 cups of boiled, flaked fish (optional)

>> Beat shortening by hand in large bowl until it looks like white frosting, about 15 minutes. Fold in liquefied bananas, then the sweetener to taste. Gradually add strawberries, then berries, stirring well until the shortening is barely visible. The frozen berries will harden the mixture into "ice cream."

>> If fish is used, add first to shortening, blending well until absorbed into the shortening. Follow with other ingredients.

The main reason why you should participate in the AW Chain is because I created it!

Okay, maybe that's not the best reason.. ;)

I'll have to jump back in it soon.

I echo everyone else's thanks for starting off the chain. I'm a lurker at heart, but I wanted to add how much more enjoyable both blogs and AW Water Cooler are now that I participate in discussions. Just participating in the blog chains has introduced me to a bunch of interesting blogs and made me feel more a part of a community.

You do realise I posted an appeal on my blog to Canberrans for seal oil and reindeer fat and salmonberries? :) I do appreciate the more-achievable version and will make it as soon as blackberries are ripe.

I'm not particpating this time, hope to be back early next year. Just wanted to run through and read Chain Eight though.

I agree. I wish I had more time to spend at AW. A whole bunch of those people are pure gold!

I love AW. I'd been fretting over an agent-related issue for a few weeks, so I posted about it the other day, and now I know exactly what to do about it. :) Everyone is so helpful...

(posting a bit late, but that's cause I like to wait until it's my turn before I read and post.)

The chain is a great idea. I've been slacking lately, and I'm glad it's now my turn. This sort of stuff keeps me in line.
